Caffènation Amsterdam has a founding story worth knowing: opened in 2014 by a former employee of the original Antwerp roastery, with the blessing of the mothership but operating independently. Owner Bert van Wassenhove apparently greets newcomers with *"Welcome to Antwerp, the most beautiful part of Amsterdam"*, which tells you everything about the register of the place before you've even ordered.

Coffee District started life in 2017 as a counter inside a fashion store, a proper hole-in-the-wall, before Rosa and Adil Loukane expanded it into what it is today. That origin story matters, because it explains the energy: this is a place built on momentum, not concept.

There's a particular confidence to a café that roasts its own beans, runs a Kees van der Westen Spirit alongside two La Marzoccos, and still finds room for an AeroPress on the menu. LOT61 has that confidence, earned, not performed.

The name is a nod to South West London, where the owners once lived, but the coffee is entirely Amsterdam. Clapham Specialty Coffee runs on beans from Stooker, one of the city's more respected local roasters, and the relationship shows in the cup. The espresso is pulled clean, the milk work is controlled, and the drip option gives you a slower route into whatever Stooker is running that season.

The first thing you notice at Cafecito is that the coffee smells the way it should, because the beans were roasted here, not shipped in from a warehouse two weeks ago. Roasting on demand is a commitment most small bars don't make, and it shows in the cup.

The coffee is not the point here, and yet it holds its own.

The building has a past life, a Michelin tyre factory, now repurposed as part of the Conscious Hotel Group's eco-conscious footprint in Amsterdam. Sticky Fingers occupies the ground floor, and the contrast between industrial bones and the room's pink-tiled interior is immediate and deliberate. It's a space that photographs well, and plenty of people know it.

The concept sounds like it shouldn't work. A café inside a gym, in one of Amsterdam's most polished residential neighbourhoods, pitching itself to the specialty coffee crowd. And yet Moods has been doing this since 2011, and the 4.7-star average across over a thousand reviews suggests it has figured something out.
