There's a logo on the wall at Toki, an eyeless smiley, and a two-word mantra beneath it: *go slow*. It sets the tone before you've even ordered.

The name *haku* means white in Japanese, and the space earns it. Pale tones, clean lines, ceramics from local artists displayed without fanfare. Ines and Mohammed opened this place in 2024 after leaving legal careers, and that backstory matters less than what it produced: a roastery-café that does its own sourcing, its own roasting, and its own thing.

Tucked away in the Jordaan, Lot Sixty One is a neighborhood gem that punches well above its weight. The tiny roastery-cafe sources exceptional beans from around the world, roasting them on-site in small batches.

Saturday morning. The Noordermarkt is already filling up, cheese stalls, secondhand books, the particular low hum of a neighbourhood that knows its own rhythm. Luuks Coffee sits directly opposite all of it, and the queue at the counter tells you everything you need to know about its standing with the people who actually live here.

There's a queue most mornings, and once you see the pastry case, you understand why.

The name does a lot of work before you even order. Jardin, French for garden, and a quiet nod to the Jordaan's own etymological roots, announces its aesthetic plainly: green, calm, unhurried. The interior earns it. Plants crowd the windowsills and climb toward the light, giving the space a density that feels considered rather than decorative.

There are coffee bars that happen to sell food, and there are food destinations that happen to pull good espresso. Le Petit Deli is firmly the latter, and that's not a criticism.

The name is a Latin paradox, *make haste slowly*, and the place lives up to it. You come in for a coffee and find yourself still there two hours later, one of the board games half-finished on the table, a second round ordered without quite deciding to.
