Photo of Scandinavian Embassy in Amsterdam

Scandinavian Embassy

9.5
De Pijp

Scandinavian Embassy brings the best of Nordic coffee culture to Amsterdam's De Pijp neighborhood. The bright, minimalist space is all blonde wood and clean lines, providing the perfect backdrop for their meticulously sourced and roasted coffee.

Elevate Coffee Lab

9.0
De Pijp

There is a San Remo Racer behind the counter and an EK-43 next to it, and Ahmad Alshikh, former head roaster at Keen Coffee, knows exactly what both are capable of. Opened in October 2024, Elevate Coffee Lab is one of the more uncompromising coffee spaces to have arrived in Amsterdam in recent years.

Photo of LOCALS Specialty Coffee To-Go in Amsterdam

LOCALS Specialty Coffee To-Go

7.5
De Pijp

The name is a statement of intent. LOCALS Specialty Coffee To-Go is not pretending to be something it isn't, there's a counter, there's coffee, and the expectation is that you'll be on your way. That kind of honesty is refreshing.

Photo of Café Baskèts in Amsterdam

Café Baskèts

7.5
De Pijp

Café Baskèts is the kind of place that shouldn't work on paper, a coffee bar grafted onto a fashion and lifestyle retail space, and yet it does, largely because neither side of the equation feels like an afterthought.

Photo of De Wasserette in Amsterdam

De Wasserette

7.5
De Pijp

De Pijp has no shortage of places to drink coffee, but De Wasserette has earned its place as the neighbourhood's default morning ritual, not through novelty, but through consistency. The name translates to *The Laundromat*, and there's something apt about that: people come back, week after week, like clockwork.

Photo of Lera in Amsterdam

Lera

7.5
De Pijp

Pale wood. Stainless steel. A menu that fits on a single card. Lera announces its intentions before you've ordered anything.

Photo of Bakers & Roasters in Amsterdam

Bakers & Roasters

7.5
De Pijp

Bakers & Roasters is, first and foremost, a brunch place, and an honest one. The founders, a Kiwi and a Brazilian who met in West Hollywood, brought their respective food cultures to De Pijp and built something that doesn't try to be a coffee bar with food on the side. The coffee is Ozone, the London roaster with serious specialty credentials, and it's pulled as espresso. That matters here, because the drinks are doing real work alongside a menu that demands attention.

Photo of Nook Amsterdam in Amsterdam

Nook Amsterdam

7.5
De Pijp

There's a particular kind of Amsterdam café that does one thing well and stops there. Nook is not that café, and it's more interesting for it.

Photo of Little Collins in Amsterdam

Little Collins

7.5
De Pijp

There's a particular kind of café that Melbourne does better than almost anywhere, the one where the coffee is serious but nobody's precious about it, where the food menu is ambitious without being fussy, and where you can arrive at noon and still feel like you're in the right place. Little Collins, founded by Australians and rooted in exactly that sensibility, has been running that playbook in De Pijp since 2012.

Photo of GoodNews Coffee in Amsterdam

GoodNews Coffee

7.5
De Pijp

The concept is immediately legible: a compact kiosk format, no stools, no laptops, no lingering. GoodNews started life in Barcelona in 2020 by repurposing newsstands as coffee stops, and the Amsterdam outpost carries that same stripped-back logic into De Pijp.

✦ The area

De Pijp runs on filter and market energy

De Pijp's coffee scene is shaped by its international street life and a refusal to be precious about it. Scandinavian Embassy brought Nordic light-roast culture here before most of Amsterdam knew what that meant, and Elevate Coffee Lab, run by former Keen Coffee head roaster Ahmad Alshikh, pushes microlot and competition-level coffees from a quietly serious counter. The neighbourhood earns its reputation.

The best bars cluster around the Albert Cuyp axis and the streets feeding off Ferdinand Bolstraat. Sit-down brunch spots, Bakers & Roasters, Little Collins, CT Coffee & Coconuts in its 1920s Art Deco cinema, outnumber pure espresso bars, which means the coffee is often secondary to the plate. If filter is your priority, head to Scandinavian Embassy or Elevate Coffee Lab first; everything else is context.

Weekday mornings before 10:00 are the move. The market draws crowds from late morning onward, and the most-scored venues fill fast on weekends. Most bars open around 08:00–09:00; Scandinavian Embassy's cardamom buns sell out by noon, so factor that in.

✦ Asked and answered

De Pijp coffee questions

What is the best specialty coffee shop in De Pijp?

Scandinavian Embassy scores highest at 9.5 and is the clearest answer, it was among the first cafes to bring Nordic light-roast filter culture to Amsterdam. Elevate Coffee Lab (9.0) is the pick if you want to talk microlots with the owner.

Is De Pijp good for working from a café?

Moderately. Only 4 of the 11 tracked venues are laptop-friendly: Café Baskèts, CT Coffee & Coconuts, Nook Amsterdam, and De Wasserette. Scandinavian Embassy and Elevate Coffee Lab, the two highest-scored spots, do not encourage laptop sessions.

Where can I get a good coffee near Albert Cuyp Market?

LOCALS Specialty Coffee To-Go (7.5) is the most practical counter-stop option in the market orbit, they roast their own beans on a Loring Kestrel and the flat white is well-executed. For something to linger over, Scandinavian Embassy is a short walk away.

Do any De Pijp cafés do filter coffee or single origins?

Yes. Scandinavian Embassy built its reputation on exactly that, order whatever is on filter. Elevate Coffee Lab goes further, stocking competition-level coffees and hand-brewed filter; owner Ahmad Alshikh is worth talking to if you want detail on the sourcing.
